Salisbury Plain
Verse 1
On Salisbury Plain stones are gathered in a row
Arranged in a circle but what does it show
Towering gray upon a field of green
Obviously symbolic but what does it mean
Who brought them there and how did they go
When did it happen, how will we ever know
What was done there, was it good or bad
Circle of wisdom or stark raving mad
Chorus
Salisbury Plain let your secrets show
Who were your people, where did they go
Salisbury Plain you are so very old
Isn’t it time for your stories to be told
Verse 2
Are you a place of joy or one of misery
Please won’t you tell us of your history
Divine madness or playground of kings
Won’t you shed your light upon your state of things
Were you a place of birthing or sacrifices done
Why do you align with the rising sun
Why are you there standing all alone
With a stillness which chills to the bone
Chorus
Salisbury Plain let your secrets show
Who were your people, where did they go
Salisbury Plain you are so very old
Isn’t it time for your stories to be told
